AM I TRULY FORGIVEN?

BY DON BANTUM

You couldn't be any more forgiven if you were Saint Peter himself. Jesus went to the cross to take away the sins of the whole world long before we we're ever born; before we had ever done anything, good or bad. God is not counting our sins against us anyway.

Romans 3: 23. for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24. and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

Nobody (that's worth repeating) "nobody" will ever go to hell because of their sins, but rather for rejecting ETERNAL LIFE, which is what Jesus offers us all. Sin isn't our problem -- spiritual death is our problem. We were born spiritually dead, and in need of life. In Adam, all died. Without the life that only Christ can give, there is no hope for any of us. Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, came to pay a debt he didn't owe, dying on the cross in our place. We deserve death, and Jesus took it for us. He became the perfect Lamb of God, who was slain from the foundation of the world.

The only reason anybody will ever go to hell, is because of their rejecting Jesus Christ and the life Jesus came to give us as a free gift. The Bible says that "without faith it is impossible to please God." So the price of YOUR salvation and MINE, has already been paid in FULL. That price was the horrible beating, suffering and death of Jesus...by crucifixion.

2 Corinthians 5: 17. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 18. All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19. that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

So through the gift of God, we have received the righteousness of Jesus himself. So when God looks at us, he sees Jesus, and all that he is. We don't stand in our own righteousness, we stand in the very righteousness of Jesus himself. We have been made perfect in his sight. Not in the sight of people around us, but in God's sight. Others see us as the imperfect people we truly are in this body, but when God looks at us, and listens to our prayers, he sees the perfect blood of his very own son, who died in our place. Our sins cannot be seen through the blood of Christ. So we are perfectly loved by God, and he will never leave us or forsake us.

Colossians 2:13. When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14. having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. 15. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

God made us as perfectly innocent as a newborn baby. Every morning we awake to a brand new day to trust God, and live by faith in all that he's done for us. Jesus has asked us to enter his rest, where we cease from all our religious works, hoping to appease an angry God. God isn't angry with us when we trust Jesus for life. So I implore you, as though God were making his appeal through me, be reconciled to God. He gave up his very own Son for us all. So rest in that truth, and stop trying to get or obtain further forgiveness through self effort. It isn't what you do that pleases God, it's what Jesus has done on our behalf.

And please don't ask Jesus to forgive you every time you err. Without the shedding of blood, there can be NO forgiveness. Every time you ask Jesus to forgive you again, what your really doing is asking him to die again. He's not going to do that, and I don't think you really want him to go through that again and again, do you?

So, simply rest in his finished work for you on the cross and put all your faith in that fact. You're a forgiven Saint. You stand in the presence of God, just as righteous in his sight as Jesus himself, because you have been given his righteousness. So just say Hallelujah, and learn to Praise God, for all he has done for us. All he wants to hear is "THANK YOU JESUS," and "I will praise your Holy Name forever." Is that too much to ask for somebody who has saved your life by giving up his own life in your place?

May God bless you, dear friends, as you learn daily to place faith in the faithful one, Jesus Christ the righteous. Amen
